90’s Flashback: A Decade Revival!
As you browse the racks this fall don’t be surprised to see those favorite fashion details of the 90’s…but take note that they’re interpreted in a softer, more feminine 2021 style! You’ll see a stronger emphasis on fabrications that translate into those recognizable silhouettes with a pretty and new feel. Here’s a brief recap of some of the bigger trend statements we’re seeing in the Fall fashion editorials (and selling at Ta’Vie)!
Shoulder pads…ok ladies, don’t let your mind go to “football” or even late 80’s Madonna or Grace Jones style pads but a more subtle, feminine version that adds a little strength and shape to the shoulder. Who’s with me? Let’s welcome and wear that version - who doesn’t want to add strength and shape to your shoulder?!
Next up, baggy jeans...I don’t necessarily love the word baggy so let’s just say the jeans are definitely getting more relaxed and fitting loosely on the body. The dad, mom, boyfriend, crop wide leg, boot cut, and flare are all great styles for Fall 2021. So many great options to register what’s happening in denim this year...pick your poison (well, that is as long as it is on the looser side!)
Speaking of loose, denim is not the only “loose” bottom style that we're seeing in abundance ...give a nod to the Jogger. This is not your “quarantine-fifteen” lounge pant, ladies. This is the new and improved feminine, sexy “wear to be seen” version. We’re seeing and loving this style in leather, imitation (ahem, vegan) leather, satin, charmeuse, and Tencel...trust me, there’s a cargo version for all tastes and styles.
And while we know fall is definitely meant for sweaters, this year one of the leaders is the sweater vest. If you don’t have one, you need one! We’re not talking your prep-school vest...we’re talking the perfect layer piece when you’re not quite ready for a coat but you want to be sure you’re comfortable and super fashionable. We’re seeing vests in all iterations for this season: Hip-length cable knits (perfect for wearing solo or layering with your favorite button-down or long sleeve tee) or longer, more tailored knit vests to be worn atop your favorite destructed jeans or paired with your slim pant style. While the emphasis is on the sweater vest, any vest will really do this fall - sleeveless coat style, drape front, denim, classic sweater, or puffer...the vest is back and we’re all lovin’ it.
It was a unique era for sure, especially when it comes to fashion. So many pieces associated with the 90’s were some of the most fun, unique, and memorable over several past decades of fashion and, really, who doesn’t want fun, unique and memorable now?! When it comes to getting back out with our families and friends in our social scenes, let’s pay homage to the 90’s with these very wearable pieces.
