TRISHA CONDRA-HARRIS, FOUNDER OF TA’VIE BOUTIQUE, EXPLAINS WHAT LED HER TO OPEN TA’VIE AND WHAT HER THOUGHTS ARE ON PERSONAL STYLE.
What background led you to opening your own boutique?
I’ve always loved fashion and from a very young age, I’ve always loved interpreting trends in a way that felt right for me. I’ve spent my career in the fashion and retail industry. After 25 years in product development for both specialty and national retailers, I developed a unique eye for style and design.
While I loved my experience in developing brands and collections for others, the desire to open my own boutique and sharing my passion has always been in my thoughts. It was only a matter of time before I took the leap! With encouragement and support from my husband, Tolly, I decided to leave my corporate career and open Ta’Vie.
What makes Ta’Vie unique?
When I made the decision to open Ta’Vie it was my goal to offer leading contemporary looks at reasonable prices. I wanted the environment to be comfortable and engaging for an ease of social shopping. When building the assortments, I spent time locating brands that I felt confident women would respond to. Brands that I am familiar with from the industry and from my home town (Charleston, SC) that were not yet available in the Knoxville area…these will now be available at Ta’Vie. Finding the right balance of comfort and merchandising was key in designing the Ta’Vie Boutique. Couple that with a fashion and styling expertise that is unmatched makes Ta’Vie a destination for women.
How did you decide on the name “Ta’Vie”?
Ta’Vie means “your life” in French and “journey” in Japanese. The name “Ta’Vie” resonated with Tolly and I because of its dual meaning. As I mentioned I believe that style is personal and when we change so does our style so in essence, we have on our own ‘style journey’. It’s ‘your life…and your journey’…and we built Ta’Vie to guide you along.
I always loved how different looks helped me express myself and how each one made me feel when I put it on: the perfect dress for that party, the great power outfit for that presentation I had to give, or that individual expression of myself I made daily.
What does fashion and style mean to you?
That’s an interesting and deep rooted question for me. Fashion has always been a part of my life. I remember vividly at a very young age how my Grandmother dressed so elegantly and timely, the fashion magazines I read cover to cover feeling inspired by the beauty of it all (these same magazines later filled my home offices), the various women in different facets of my life that portrayed themselves through their dress. I always loved how different looks helped me express myself and how each one made me feel when I put it on. The perfect dress for that party or wedding, the great power outfit for that presentation I had to give or that individual expression of myself I made daily. Every day can bring different emotions and feelings to each of us, and our clothes, the way we dress, can often help us convey those feelings. Style is personal and individuality is what makes us who we are, expression of these through our ‘look’ is what style means to me.
How do you want your customers to feel when they shop at Ta’Vie?
Comfortable, Fashionable…Confident! I want every woman that shops at Ta’Vie to enjoy her experience with us both while she’s here and when she wears her purchases from us. Shopping can be tedious or overwhelming for many…I want it to be comfortable, easy, fun at Ta’Vie. I want the Ta’Vie customer to always feel she is current and fashionable while maintaining her own sense of style and most importantly I want her to feel confident. Confident in her style…confident in herself!
